The department of English has been opened in this composite Institution since its inception, in 1981. It functions with an adequate number of competent teachers with the requisite qualification to cater to the needs of its students. Two of the teachers are in the direct payment category while another is in the management payment category.

The subject is taught as a compulsory subject in the institution. At present the department has 303 students from the locality out of which the girls outnumber the boys. This shows that our backward locality is gradually waking up to the need for women empowerment. The success rate of the students is 77%, which shows the interest the students take in learning English to enable themselves to face the competitive world.

The department depends on the Central Library to provide learning resources to its students. The library contains 1590 books on the subject apart from internet from which the department downloads materials as and when necessary.

The department enhances its number of books with the financial assistance provided by U.G.C. as well as from the funds collected as library fees from the students. Apart from lecture method, the students are made aware of the nuances of the language through interaction among themselves and the faculty members. The department actively participates in the subject counseling of the students at the beginning of every academic session. The teachers of the department are graciously permitted by the head of the institution to participate in seminars and other such faculty development programmes. One of the faculties had been to Bangalore on one such programme while two of the members have attended State & National level Seminars from time to time. The department takes the help of CIEFL, Hyderabad, National Library, Kolkata to procure necessary teaching materials.
