The department of Zoology was established in 1982 and +3 wing has been opened in 1994. Since then the department is running smoothly with two faculty members. Both are qualified with M.Sc and M.Phil degree and are competent.

             The department has Seventy seven students having Zoology either as Pass or Elective subject of which 47 students have opted the subject as Pass and 21 as Minor Elective and 09 as Major Elective.

   Most of the students of the department are from rural background.

        One computer , two well furnished laboratories and other resources like overhead projector are available to the students. Text and reference books are available in the central library of the college and the total number of books are 443 (four hundred and forty three).

        Overhead projector and computer are used to give the students a proper understanding of the subject.

        One of the faculty members has attended one Orientation Programme in June’2004 held by Academic Staff College, Pondicherry University, Pondicherry. The teachers assess the students by conducting  unit tests. Also remedial classes are held to enable the students to understand the topic in a better way.

                      There is no Honours teaching facility in the department. Opening of Honours course in the subject is under active consideration of the institution.

               In addition to the existing work load the department runs the Vocational subject Industrial Fish and Fisheries. The department co-ordinates to arrange Part time/ Guest lecturers specialized in the field for taking classes in the subject.
